Looking for a fresh, easy, and downright delicious way to enjoy sushi-like flavours at home-without the fuss of rolling or fancy knife skills? Enter the Salmon Poke Bowl! This vibrant Hawaiian dish is all about simplicity and taste, tender cubes of raw salmon marinated in a savoury blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger, served over a bed of fluffy rice and topped with crisp veggies and creamy avocado. It’s everything you love about sushi, but way easier to make and perfect for a quick lunch or a light dinner.
Poke (pronounced “POH-keh”) has its roots in Hawaii, where fishermen would season the day’s catch with salt and seaweed for a quick, flavourful meal. Over time, poke bowls evolved, blending in Japanese and Korean influences with soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the customisable bowls we know and love today. Traditionally made with tuna or octopus, poke is now just as delicious with salmon or all kinds of seafood, making it an accessible and crowd-pleasing option for home cooks everywhere.
Also as a sidenote, if you are not too happy with raw fish a poke bowl might be a great alternative, since the fish is marinated before eating, so its half cooked and half raw, it also makes it safer than just raw fish for younger people, so if you’re craving sushi but want something much easier to whip up, this Salmon Poke Bowl might just be your answer. No rolling mats, no special equipment, just fresh ingredients, a quick marinade, and a bowl full of flavour that brings a little bit of Hawaii right to your kitchen, hehehe, lets check out the recipe!

Super simple and delicious salmon hawaiian poke bowl, you can also use this recipe with other fish and ingredients!
Ingredients
- Rice – To Taste (Already Cooked Sushi Rice)
- Salmon – 300gr
- Soy Sauce – 60ml
- Rice Vinegar – 2 Tablespoons
- Sesame Oil – 2 Tablespoons
- Ginger – 1 Tablespoon Grated
- Chilli – Flakes Dried (Or Cayenne Pepper)
- Chives – 2 Chopped Sprigs
- Sesame Seeds – 1 Tablespoon
- Avocado – 1
- Carrot – 1/2 Small
- Cucumber – 1/4
- Soybeans – 2 Tablespoons Soy Beans (Edamame Already Cooked)
Directions
- Note that a poke bowl is mostly adding everything together, so you need fresh sushi rice and edamame already cooked for this version, besides the raw fish all the additions are raw or have to be already prepared before starting.
- Start by cutting the salmon into cubes, trying to make sure that each cube is more or less the same size.
- In a large bowl add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, chilli flakes, chopped chives and sesame seeds, add the cubed salmon, mix and set aside for at least 15 minutes to 1 hour to marinate (not more, if you leave it for a long time it will start turning the protein into mush).
- When it’s time to assemble the poke bowl, start by cutting open the avocados, remove the flesh and cut into slices, cut the carrot into julienne (thin sticks), cut the cucumber into thin slices.
- Then put the cooked rice in a bowl, up to 2/3, add the carrot, half a sliced avocado, the cucumber, a spoonful of soya beans and finally half the salmon, you can add a little more chives and sesame seeds on top, repeat for a second bowl and you’re done, ready to serve, bon appetit.
