Easy and simple, there is nothing better than a nice tender well seasoned steak for a nice meal! ;D

Ingredients

  • Beef – 1 Shoulder Steak
  • Rice – 1/2 Cup
  • Water – 1 Cup
  • Butter – A Knob
  • Onion – 1
  • Garlic – 3 Cloves
  • Carrot – 1
  • Olive Oil – A Drizzle
  • Pepper – A Pinch
  • Salt – A Pinch

Directions

  1. Start by preparing the rice. In a small saucepan, add the rice to the water and a little salt, cook over low heat until the rice is tender, season with a knob of butter.
  2. In a frying pan, add the chopped onion, carrot, and garlic with a drizzle of olive oil and a little salt and pepper. Sauté over medium-low heat until everything is tender, taste, and adjust the seasoning.
  3. Finally, season the steak with salt and pepper and set aside. Heat a grill pan and grill each side twice to make a diamond pattern, trying to ensure that the outside is well caramelized and the inside is still pink. Remove from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before cutting.
  4. And that’s it, serve the steak with the rice and the onion and carrot sauté, bon appétit.
Notes: For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of 135°F (57°C). Use a meat thermometer for best results. While shoulder steak is economical and flavourful, you can substitute with sirloin, ribeye, or your preferred cut.

Never skip the resting period, it’s what keeps your steak juicy and tender.

The vegetable medley can be prepared earlier in the day and reheated gently before serving. Feel free to add bell peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms to the medley for extra color and flavor. For a richer vegetable medley, stir in 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream during the last minute of cooking.

For those who enjoy a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the vegetable medley or a dash of hot sauce.
