Yay Summer vibes, my friends! Here’s a delightful yet straightforward recipe for grilled tuna with a nice simple salad – a perfect fit for those sunny days. Tuna, often considered the sea’s equivalent of a steak, holds a special place in the Algarve’s cuisine. In this coastal region, the locals adore preparing it in two distinct ways: a simple seasoning and grill or a slow-cooked variation in a tomato-based sauce, prevalent in Portuguese cuisine. Both methods are stellar! And you can see what choice i made today, let’s check it out! ;D

Summer's delight: Grilled tuna meets a fresh, zesty salad, a perfect Algarvian treat!

Ingredients

  • Tuna – 650g
  • Lettuce – 8 Leaves (Half a Lettuce)
  • Red Onion – 1 Small
  • Tomato – 1
  • Olive Oil – 2 Tablespoons
  • Vinegar – 1 Tablespoon
  • Pepper – A Pinch
  • Salt – A Pinch

Directions

  1. If you’ve got a solid chunk of tuna, slice it into steaks. I’ve cut about 6 thick slices. But you can grab pre-cut pieces according to your liking or need. Season these slices with a sprinkle of coarse salt and pepper. Now, heat up a grill or a griddle pan.
  2. When the grill is searing hot, lay those tuna steaks on it. Grill these beauties until they reach your desired doneness and acquire that perfect golden sear. Some love their tuna well-cooked, while others prefer a touch of rareness inside.
  3. As for the salad, wash all the veggies. Slice the onions and tomatoes thinly and tear the lettuce. In a separate bowl, mix the olive oil and vinegar. Season this dressing with salt and pepper. Combine well to create a flavorful vinaigrette, then drizzle it over the salad.
  4. Voilà! Serve your grilled tuna along with this fresh salad.
Notes: If you fancy a tangy twist, consider adding a squeeze of lemon to the tuna or the dressing (this is very common in Algarve). Fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro can bring a new dimension to the salad. Grilled vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini complement the tuna perfectly! ;D
