Some days you just don’t feel like dealing with a proper side dish hehehe, you know how it is. I remember one of those evenings I was clearly in a steak-and-egg mood, but with what exactly, I genuinely had no idea, maybe some kind of sandwich?!?!? situation??!?!? Except then bread didn’t sound right either, and somehow that indecision turned into this little skillet number, yet another shining example of my culinary genius. ;D
Sometimes I go back and forth on whether I should even be sharing recipes like this one, since they’re almost embarrassingly simple, but I’ve come to think of them less as “recipes” and more as gentle nudges or reminders. Honestly, almost anyone already knows how to fry a steak with some garlic, crack an egg into a hot pan, and stir fry a few vegetables, at least I’d hope so. But if you don’t, here’s exactly how I do it, and if you already do, well, maybe you’ll pick up a trick or two anyway. Let’s get into it.
Pan-Fried Steak with Carrot Red Pepper Stir-Fry and a Fried Egg on Top

Ingredients
- Beef – 1 Steak
- Egg – 1
- Onion – 1/2
- Carrot – 1 Small
- Red Bell Pepper – 1/4
- Garlic – 4 Cloves
- Olive Oil – A Drizzle
- Pepper – A Pinch
- Paprika – A Pinch
- Salt – A Pinch
Directions
- Season the beef steak with salt, pepper, and thinly sliced 2 cloves of garlic, set aside.
- In a frying pan with a drizzle of olive oil, add the onion, carrot, and red bell pepper, coarsely chopped, along with the minced garlic. Season with a pinch of salt, pepper, and paprika. Sauté until all the ingredients are tender. Taste before removing from the pan.
- Clean the frying pan (if nothing is stuck, a little kitchen paper will do, or of course you can wash the pan or use a new one). Add a drizzle of olive oil and add the seasoned steak. Fry until golden brown, then flip.
- Now add the egg to the pan, fry both to your taste. Season the egg with salt and pepper, and it’s ready to serve. Enjoy!

Use a hot pan for the steak, you want a proper sear, not a slow simmer, that’s what gives that yummy golden crust.
Don’t overcrowd the vegetables in the pan, if they’re piled too high they’ll steam instead of stir fry, and you lose that lightly caramelized edge.
If you like your egg yolk runny, fry it for a shorter time and baste it with a tiny bit of the pan’s olive oil so the top sets without flipping it.
A toasted slice of crusty bread on the side is never a bad idea, even though this dish doesn’t strictly need one, it’s great for mopping up the egg yolk.
And speaking of garlic, why so much of it? Well, garlic is delicious, sure it might leave you with breath that could clear a room, but like the saying goes, you get used to it fast and then you can’t live without it. And funny enough, if you ever wondered whether garlic flavored soda exists, it does.
The Japanese city of Aomori, known as the garlic capital of Japan, actually produces a garlic flavored cola, garlic ice cream, garlic beer, and a whole lineup of garlic novelty products. So now I know exactly where my next vacation is going! ;D
