There’s nothing quite so comforting as the smell of freshly fried cinnamon apple fritters. This classic fall treat is a delicious combination of sweet, spiced apples and a light in a crispy fried dough, these are a mix between a donut and a cake, so a bit more dense but also more rustic having apple inside.

These can be baked, but are best fried and very common during autumn, you can also make them a bit more spicy adding things like pumpkin spice, nutmeg, Chinese five spice to give it a bit more kick.

Finally because these are more dense and have apple inside they last longer than a donut, the day after they are more like a slice of a spiced apple cake, lets check the recipe.

Cinnamon apple fritters are a delicious treat, almost cake like filled with apple, these are perfect for tea or warm up on a cold day.

Ingredients

  • Flour – 128gr
  • Baking Powder – 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tbsp
  • Lemon – 2 tbsp (Juice)
  • Apples – 3 (Peeled and diced)
  • Eggs – 2 (L At room temperature)
  • Milk – 60ml
  • Vegetable Oil – For Frying
  • Sugar – To Sprinkle
  • Cinnamon – To Sprinkle

Directions

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Peel and cut the apples into small cubes, add these to a bowl with the lemon juice.
  3. With a mixer beat the eggs with the sugar until they turn creamy white.
  4. Then lower the speed and beat slowly adding the flour mixture, until everything is combined.
  5. Finally add the milk, stir again, followed by the diced apples, mix well and now you have the mixture ready.
  6. Heat the oil, you can fry in a frying pan or deep fryer, pour in spoonfuls of the batter and fry until both sides are nicely browned, remove to kitchen paper or a drying rack and repeat until you have no more batter.
  7. While the fritters are hot, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and you’re done, enjoy!
Notes: You can use whatever apples you want, i choose Fugi Apples because they are sweet and have a great texture, but you can choose Granny Smith (Greens) if you want a little more acid or Pink Lady if you want more juicy, you can pretty much use whatever type you want, also good if you have too ripe apples.

Also instead of sprinkling with sugar and cinnamon you can create a glaze, add 150gr of powdered sugar, half a teaspoon of vanilla extract and about 3 or 4 teaspoons of water (or lemon juice), mix everything well and pour over the fritters after they are cold and wait a bit for the glaze to set and get crispier.
