They always say we eat with our eyes, but every now and then it’s the eyes that do the eating, which can actually be true. Jellyfish, for example, sense the world with their tentacles, and those are basically their eyes, so technically there are creatures out there that can eat with their eyes. Scary stuff, right? Uhhhhhhhhh
So how about a dish for Halloween that has impact in both looks and flavor? Squid ink spaghetti tastes like regular spaghetti with just a little hint of the sea. It’s more about the gorgeous, jet black color than the aroma. Pair it with a tomato sauté and chicken with a small spicy kick, and it all comes together frightening!!!!
So of course I’m sharing this one for Halloween, because I think the combination of black spaghetti and red tomato sauce with chicken is pretty fun and a little bit scary, and between you and me, it’s perfect for a spooky dinner on October 31st hehehe 😀 Let’s get to the recipe!
Spooky Squid Ink Spaghetti with Spicy Chicken and Chickpeas

A fantastic Halloween recipe, with chicken sautéed in spicy tomato, served over creamy black spaghetti made with squid ink.
Ingredients
- Black Spaghetti – 220g
- Chicken – 300g (Breast)
- Onion – 1 Large
- Garlic – 2 Cloves
- Tomatoes – 3
- Chickpeas – 150g (Pre-cooked)
- Butter – 1 Teaspoon
- Olive Oil – A Drizzle
- Paprika – A Pinch
- Turmeric – A Pinch
- Cayenne Pepper – A Pinch
- Pepper – A Pinch
- Salt – A Pinch
Directions
- Cook the black spaghetti just as you would any other spaghetti, place it in a pot with plenty of hot, salted water and cook until tender (check the package for the recommended cooking time).
- Once the spaghetti is cooked, toss it with a little butter.
- While the spaghetti is cooking, heat a drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan and add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until the onion is nicely golden brown.
- Add the cubed chicken, season with a pinch of salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, turmeric, and paprika, and cook until the chicken begins to take on some color.
- Next, add the diced tomato, reduce the heat to medium-low, and cook for about 10 minutes, this will allow the tomato to become soft and flavorful, and ensure the chicken is fully cooked through.
- Finally, stir in the pre-cooked chickpeas. Taste and adjust the seasonings to your liking, then serve over the black spaghetti. Enjoy!

For the scariest look, serve the red tomato chicken on top of the black pasta so it looks like a bloody scene on a dark plate.
Want more heat? Increase the cayenne or add a few chili flakes. Want less? Cut the cayenne in half.
Garnish with fresh parsley or basil for a green “swamp” touch, or a little grated cheese like a ghostly dusting hehehehe.
