Happy New Year! I wish you all a wonderful new year, I hope you had an awesome one and an even better next one! Also, this is the first year of BakeAfter, so I hope you have enjoyed all the recipes, tips and tricks!

So how about ending the year with a bang and some cheese, ;D How about some cheesy bacony sausagy puff pastry rolls? Hehehe I love this kind of finger food, it’s so easy to make, it’s so versatile, you can make a ton for a party in no time, and it’s a great opportunity to try new sauces to dip them in as well… it’s a fantastic recipe.

This Sausage and Bacon Cheesy Puff Pastry Rolls should give you exactly 16 mini puffs, but you can cut them into 8 bigger ones, this might be a good idea if your sausage or other fillings are too big, but I say the more, the merrier, so 16 is better, let’s check the recipe.

Also know as pigs in a blanket, these are delicious bacon and sausage pastries, super simple to make, perfect for parties.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry – 1 Roll (+/- 200gr)
  • Vienna Sausages – 6
  • Bacon – 6 Slices
  • Mozzarella Cheese – To taste (Grated)
  • Egg – 1
  • Oregano – 1 Pinch
  • Sesame Seeds – 1 Pinch
  • Pepper – 1 Pinch

Directions

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 200 °C or what the puff pastry packet recommends, line a baking tray with non-stick paper.
  2. Open the puff pastry and cut it into 16 triangles, cover these with a layer of grated mozzarella cheese, pepper and dry oregano.
  3. Cut the bacon into 3 slices and place a piece on each edge of the triangle as shown in the photos, cut the sausages into 3 pieces and place each piece on top of the bacon.
  4. Roll it up from the sausage into a puff pastry roll, place it on the baking tray and repeat until you have no more rolls.
  5. Whisk an egg and generously brush each puff pastry, then sprinkle with some sesame seeds and bake in the oven for 26 to 30 minutes until they’ve risen nicely and are nicely crispy browned on the outside!
  6. And there you have it, ready to serve warm or at room temperature, bon appétit and happy New Year’s Eve!
Notes: This recipe doesn’t need more salt, everything has already enough salt, and you can always serve with a sauce if you think it needs a bit more seasoning. You can also roll these before baking and just store them like that in the freezer and when you want to bake just put them in the oven directly from the freezer, awesome!
