Now this recipe i gotta admit was a bit forced into me, hahaha i didn’t want to make it, but well im a curious fellow and i couldnt resist, for me… processed cheese, its not that i wont eat it, its ok, its like american cheese it has its purpuse, but i wont buy it or eat it regularly, why would i with a world of wonderful cheeses to try ;D
So cheese tarts made with processed cheese spread seems like a fried mars chocolate bar situation, im sure its gonna be good, but how good? Hummmm ;D There is a reason awesome cheese tarts use ricotta or mascarpone cheese, or fresh cheese or requeijão cheese, these are just way more rich types of cheeses, but ok ILL DO IT!
So, i went with the basic recipe, i only added a bit of orange peel to it to give to the filling a bit more floral and interesting flavor, instead of just sweet processed cheese hehehe, and the result… well… its kinda nice hahaha, i would say the orange was the correct option, the texture is similar to a cornstarch type of pudding, with a hint of cheese and orange, its pretty good pat on my back i knew it along! heheheh Lets check the recipe.
Orange Triangle Cheese Spread Tarts
Nothing like cute little cheese tarts with a hit of citrus, egg and cheese, all in a very crumbly and buttery puff pastry crust yum yum in every bite.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry – 200gr (1 Roll)
- Eggs – 2
- Sugar – 100gr
- Butter – 50gr
- Processed Cheese – 8 Triangles (+/- 125gr total)
- Orange – 1 (Just Zest)
Directions
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over a medium heat, then add the sugar and orange zest, taking care to only zest the orange, not the white part of the orange under the peel (that part is a bit bitter).
- Let everything heat up and dissolve completely, whisk the two eggs separately and take spoonfuls of the sugar-orange mixture into the eggs to warm them up.
- When the egg mixture is hot, pour everything back into the pan with the remaining orange syrup and mix well.
- Finally add the cheeses at room temperature to the mixture, turn the heat down to low and mix until you have a velvety cream, remove from the heat.
- Preheat the oven to 200ºC (or whatever the puff pastry package recommends) and line the muffin tins with non-stick paper.
- Cut out circles of the puff pastry dough with a mold or a glass and line the bottom of each muffin tin.
- Finally pour the creamy tart filling into each tin, bake for about 20 to 25 minutes until the cream is cooked and the pastry is crispy, remove and allow to cool a little before serving, bon appetit.
