Dive into the heartwarming world of classic desserts with this Home Made Brown Sugar Apple Pie recipe. It’s a simple yet satisfying treat that’s perfect for using up those slightly overripe apples. This recipe takes a flavorful turn by combining three different types of apples: the juicy and slightly tart Golden, the super sweet and tender Pink Lady, and the firm-fleshed Reineta, which holds up well during cooking and is ideal for replacing traditional ‘pêras bêbadas’ (drunken pears).
To enhance the filling’s flavor and add a touch of caramelization, we’ll precook the apple mixture before tucking it into the flaky puff pastry. While I may not have photos of the pie’s interior to share, as it was a gift, I assure you the result is as delightful to the palate as it is to the eye. So, let’s get baking and fill our kitchens with the aroma of this comforting, homemade delight. 🥧✨
Home Made Brown Sugar Apple Pie

Whip up a cozy Home Made Brown Sugar Apple Pie, blending sweet and tart apples for a classic treat. A simple, caramel-kissed delight that’s easy to love and bake.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry – 2 Round Rolls (+/- 400gr)
- Golden Apple – 2
- Pink Lady Apple – 4
- Reinetas Apple – 2
- Brown Sugar – 3 Tablespoons
- Lemon – 2 Tablespoons of Juice (or Balsamic Vinegar)
- Egg – 1
- Cinnamon – A pinch
- Butter – 1 Tablespoon
- Salt – A pinch
Directions
- Start by peeling the apples and cutting them into cubes of roughly the same size. Cover everything with the lemon juice.
- In a large saucepan or frying pan add the apples, followed by the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt, cook over a medium-low heat for about 25 to 30 minutes until the apples are tender and the sugar is slightly caramelized, you want the result to be something similar to a jam with some of the apples liquefied and others still very solid.
- Preheat the oven to 200ºC or whatever the packet of puff pastry recommends, lay a roll of puff pastry in the bottom of a pie tin, prick the bottom, add the apple filling and cover with the other roll of puff pastry.
- Roll up the edges to seal the tart, make a few cuts on top and brush with beaten egg, bake for about 40 minutes (or as long as the packet of puff pastry recommends) until golden brown and that’s it, take it out and it’s ready to serve warm with ice cream or later cold, bon appetit!
