I made this cake for my nephew’s birthday hehehe, a zebra cake is nothing more than a marble cake, that is a cake with two colors made with a cake base or vanilla cake base with another chocolate base, the only difference is the way you pour the mixture, normally for a marble cake its a bit random, but for the zebra pattern, you put it in these circles, did I succeed?

Hahaha more or less, but the cake turned out super fluffy and delicious and that’s what you always want ;D Of course, if I were to make it again I’d maybe use a bigger spoon, because I think my little fault was using a small spoon and wanting to make too many stripes, so i got more thin stripes and chunky ones, let’s get to the recipe!

A Zebra Marble Cake is a visually striking cake that combines the classic flavors of vanilla and chocolate in a unique presentation of distinct striped pattern, reminiscent of a zebra's coat, achieved by carefully layering the two batters.

Ingredients

  • Flour – 375gr
  • Baking Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs – 4
  • Sugar – 200gr
  • Butter – 200gr
  • Butter – To Grease
  • Milk – 240ml
  • Vanilla – 1 teaspoon (extract)
  • Salt – A pinch
  • Cocoa Powder – 25gr (+/- 3 Tablespoons)
  • Milk – 50ml
  • Sugar – 15gr (+/- 1 Tablespoon)

Directions

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 180 °C, prepare a 24 cm round cake tin, grease it well with butter and line the bottom and sides with non-stick paper and set aside.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients, flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl add the chocolate base, cocoa, 50ml milk and 15g sugar.
  4. In a third bowl add the butter at room temperature and the sugar, whisk well until creamy, then add the eggs one by one, whisking all the time, finally add in the vanilla extract.
  5. Now, with the mixer on a low speed, add the 240ml of milk and the flour, baking powder and salt mixture in between, until everything is smooth.
  6. Then spoon half of the mixture into a bowl with the chocolate base and fold it in tightly, so you have 2 cake bases, a white vanilla one and a black chocolate one.
  7. Finally, take 1 spoonful (I used a large tablespoon, but I suggest something a little bigger, but not as big as a serving spoon) of the vanilla mixture and pour it into the center of the tin, then pour in 1 spoonful of the chocolate mixture, keep doing this until you have no more cake batter left.
  8. Put the cake in the oven for 45 to 50 minutes until it’s golden baked, prick it in the middle with a toothpick, if the toothpick comes out dry then it’s ready, take it out and let it cool for about 15 minutes before removing it from the cake tin and you’re done, bon appetit and enjoy!
Notes: You can of course make a ton of variations, both in design or additions, like adding chocolate ganache or chantilly to the top, adding nuts or fruits, or adding to the batter other flavourings, like lemon zest or instant coffee.
