Happy Valentine’s Day! How about skipping the traditional sweets and chocolates this year? Let’s whip up a delightful and nutritious fruit salad, a combo of apples and watermelon, with a zesty touch of watermelon and lemon juice. Here’s a sneaky chef’s secret: using cookie cutters to create adorable shapes from the fruit!

I had plans for peaches, but they were overripe, so I used only one. A good tip for fruit salads in general is to always taste the fruit. If it’s not at its best or doesn’t complement well, skip it from your fruit salad.

Nothing like a sweet & healthy & cute fruit salad for valentines day

Ingredients

  • Watermelon – 1/4
  • Green Apple – 3
  • Red Apple – 3
  • Lemon – 1
  • Peach – 1

Directions

  1. Start by squeezing the lemon, using the juice to prevent the fruits from browning. Pour this juice into the serving bowl.
  2. Cut the watermelon into slices, ideal for cookie-cutter shapes. I used a heart-shaped cutter to add a touch of color.
  3. Utilize the leftover watermelon pieces by mashing them and straining through a sieve to extract the juice. Add this juice to the bowl.
  4. Peel and slice the apples, using cookie cutters for various shapes. I opted for flowers, hearts, rounds, ovals, etc. Dice up any remaining apple pieces and add them to the bowl.
  5. Chop the peach into small pieces and add to the mix.
  6. Taste the salad; if it’s too sweet, add a bit more lemon. If too bitter, add more watermelon or consider orange juice or sugar. Enjoy your delightful salad!
Notes: Experiment with various fruit shapes to create an intriguing blend of flavors. Using heart, flower, or various shapes adds a special vibe to the salad. Ensure to use the freshly squeezed lemon juice to prevent the fruit from discoloring. Don’t be afraid to adjust the flavors with additional citrus or sugar to suit your taste.
