I called these apple pies, but these are actually 2 recipes folded into one, on one side i did a short pastry pies with a pear filling and then i made some puff pastry pies with an apple filling, but both recipes are absolutely the same, just change the type of pastry and the fruit, that’s it, so when coming from the portuguese recipes to the english recipes im going to make just the apple pie version, but ill show photos of both and add on the notes the changes, so you can make one or another 🙂
I just think it’s smarter to make a adaptive recipe than 2 copycat recipes, no? Also like most pie fillings as long as it’s not a super juicy fruit you can change to whatever fruit you want, or with a mix of pears and apples 🙂 Lets check the recipe!
HomeMade Hand Sized Baked Mcdonalds Apple Pies

Delicious home made apple of pear filled tarts, thesr are a great and healthier sweet, also much more portable so good for kids lunches, picknics or parties.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry – 2 rolls
- Apples – 5
- Water – 120ml
- Brown Sugar – 2 Tablespoons
- Balsamic Vinegar – 1 tsp
- Cinnamon – 1 tsp
- Egg – 1
- Salt – A pinch
Directions
- Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes so it’s easier to spread the filling inside each tart.
- Pour the apple cubes with the sugar, balsamic vinegar, cinnamon and a pinch of salt into a frying pan (or small pan) over a medium-low heat and cook until the apples are tender.
- Preheat the oven to 180ºC and prepare a baking tray lined with non-stick paper.
- Taste the apple filling and season with sugar and cinnamon until they’re to your liking.
- Then roll out the pastry and cut it into rectangles. For each tart you need two rectangles of pastry, one for the base and one for the top.
- Put a line of apple filling on a rectangle of pastry, then cover it with another rectangle of pastry, sealing the edges of the pastry with a fork.
- Repeat until you have no more pastry left, then whisk an egg and brush it over all the tarts and make a few cuts in the pastry with a knife (otherwise you risk the filling coming out the sides when heated).
- Bake for about 30 minutes (or as long as the packet of pastry recommends), until they are golden brown, remove from the oven and they are ready to serve, enjoy!

I made them about mcdonalds size, but you can make them in any size your heart desires, the most common i would say would be half moons or squares.
Sorry, the recipe was initially published with missing parts, guess i was writing late at night and then forgot to finish the next day, also the photo quality is meh hahaha, but i did this recipe like 8 years ago, still worth sharing i think! 🙂
