I saw a photo from a restaurant that only makes “pizzas” on baguettes and I thought… hmm, that looks easy, let me try it! So here are two versions, one thing I love is that you can make this on a baguette or any bread you have on hand. I wouldn’t really call it a pizza, it’s more like an open sandwich or toast, but hey, besides the bread, these are all usual pizza ingredients/toppings we know and love.
One version is made with fresh mozzarella and bacon, and the other with regular mozzarella and pepperoni. I have to admit that when I’m feeling too lazy to make pizza dough from scratch, this doesn’t turn out bad at all on a baguette! This is a great way to make some type of pizza but with bread, it’s super easy and absolutely delicious. Sure, it’s not pizza, it’s pizza bread, but it’s still incredibly yummy!
This recipe actually reminds me of when I was a tiny boy and asked my portuguese grandma, Mami for pizza. She had no idea what pizza was, so she asked around and then made me homemade bread with tomato and cheese. Was it pizza? Nooo hahaha! Was it delicious? Absolutely! Here’s to you, grandma! Lets check the recipe!
Homemade French Baguette Bread Pizzas

When you're too lazy to make pizza dough but your stomach still demands cheesy goodness!<br /> Because sometimes the best pizzas aren't pizzas at all!
Ingredients
- Bread – 1 Rustic Baguette
- Tomato Pulp – 150ml
- Garlic – 1 Clove
- Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese – 100g
- Mozzarella Cheese – 100g
- Bacon – 100g
- Pepperoni – 9 Slices
- Olive Oil – A Drizzle
- Oregano – A Pinch
- Pepper – A Pinch
- Salt – A Pinch
Directions
- Start by making the tomato sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, finely chopped garlic, a pinch of salt, and a drizzle of olive oil. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes until flavorful.
- Now open the baguette. In my case, I only needed half because it was quite large, but you can cut it to your liking. Spread a little tomato sauce on one slice and cover with slices of buffalo mozzarella and coarsely chopped bacon. Season with a pinch of pepper, dried oregano, and a drizzle of olive oil.
- On the other slice, also cover with tomato sauce, followed by grated mozzarella and finally the slices of pepperoni, season with pepper and dried oregano.
- Bake both in the oven at 350°F (180°C) until the top is nicely browned, and it’s ready. Bon appétit!

If you’re in a real hurry, you can skip making the sauce and use good quality store-bought marinara or pizza sauce.
For the best melt, let your mozzarella come to room temperature before using.
You can assemble these and freeze them for later – just add a few extra minutes to the baking time (thats how frozen pizza works, the toppings are raw but the dough is half baked or fully baked).
One baguette easily serves 2-4 people depending on how hungry everyone is!
Feel free to raid your fridge, leftover roasted vegetables, different cheeses, or herbs all work wonderfully, these are more suggestions than anything else.
