So for the Portuguese, well i should say the Lisbon Santo Antonio festivities, since this is mostly a Lisbon party (there are several across the country but the Lisbon is by far the biggest), nothing like sharing a delightful Classic Red Wine Sangria Cocktail, this is a pretty refreshing summer cocktail that’s perfect for those warm days when you need something cool and fruity with just the right kick or well for any Party! This traditional Spanish and Portuguese drink has become a staple at gatherings across the globe, and for good reason, its a simple cocktail that you can make in large amounts, it’s a crowd-pleaser that’s surprisingly easy to whip up in your own kitchen or in this case in the garden!
While you can find plenty of commercial sangria versions lining store shelves these days, nothing beats homemade touch, its just in my opinion way better, even some of the one I’ve had when i was younger as a teenager with all the other… teenager OMG! These had a tendency to be less fragrant and more boozy, but still better than a commercial version, but thats what makes a sangria special, you can make it your own, to your own taste, you can make it more lighter for a casual afternoon, or much stronger for a garden party or bbq, its infinitely customisable to your taste, you can adjust the sweetness, alcohol content, and fruit combinations to create your perfect summer sipper.
So what makes this one special? Well its not that special but i think it shows a classic combination and a smart one, you get both the wine and the 7up giving it a big of sparkle, the 7up and sugar give it sweetness and the berries and lime give that big acidity punch, its a fantastic classic base you can adjust to your own taste, the vodka was more to give it that extra kick (it was on a lighter side) and we were all adults, the important thing is that just sugar and wine with some fruits doesn’t mean a good sangria, it has to have some balance to be a delicious drink! Lets check the recipe!
