Nothing like a really simple toast, of course if you don’t have roasted peppers, you can always go roast some peppers (or buy them already roasted for the lazy folks), but in this case I already had some so it was done in an instant. I also used thick-cut ham, but the cheese was maybe a small mistake, it was one of those really buttery Portuguese cheeses and these aren’t great for toasts because after 2 minutes they just want to escape from the bread. However, enough stayed inside for me to consider it a success! 😀 So let’s get to the recipe…

Maybe its me but nothing beats a nice toast, but just ham and cheese is boring, how about adding roasted peppers? ;D

Ingredients

  • Bread – 1 (Or 2 Slices)
  • Roasted Bell Pepper – 1/2
  • Ham – 1 Thick Slice
  • Flamengo Cheese – 2 Slices
  • Mayonnaise – 1 Teaspoon
  • Garlic Powder – A Pinch
  • Pepper – A Pinch

Directions

  1. Let’s put this together, heat up the toaster, cut the bread in half, put the green pepper, a little mayonnaise, garlic powder, and pepper on one half, and add the Flamengo cheese and ham to the other half.
  2. Put it in the toaster until everything is nicely toasted and the cheese is melted, and that’s it. Bon appétit!
Notes: Avoid super buttery cheeses like Leerdammer for toasts—they tend to slip out! Go for a cheese that melts well but holds its structure, like Gouda, Cheddar, or Swiss.

If roasting your own peppers, roast them at 425°F (220°C) until the skin is charred, then peel. Or save time with jarred roasted peppers—just pat them dry first! You can see here more about roasting peppers at home! 😀

A crusty roll works best here. If using sliced bread, make sure it’s thick-cut so it doesn’t get soggy.

Feel free to add a pinch of smoked paprika to the mayo mixture for extra depth!

No sandwich press? No problem! Use a heavy skillet and press down with a spatula, flipping once.
