It’s a bit odd that something I drink so much hehehe, I’ve never shared here before. I know it’s a super basic drink/recipe, but sometimes the basic things are the best ones, hehe. I usually make this when I’m craving something different or a bit sweeter, like a little present to brighten my day, since I drink tea everyday with nothing and normally cold. This is a classic asian drink, and although there are plenty of variations out there, this one for me is one of the more delicious versions, perfect to try at home, i think a lot of the variations are too sweet and more like a dessert than a nice drink.
Milk Tea is exactly what you think it is… tea with milk. However, there are 200 variations! For today, here’s the most basic recipe of all: tea, milk, and a sweetener (brown sugar). Other variations include powdered milk, condensed milk, evaporated milk, cream, the tea can be made with water or directly in the milk itself. You can add all kinds of sweet things from sugar to syrups, or nothing at all if you use condensed milk. Often people use more aromatic teas like chai or add spices to give it another dimension. Lots to experiment with and lots to adjust to your taste!
My version is 2/3 strong black tea (2 bags) with 1/3 whole or 2% milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar. It’s lightly sweet because I always drink tea without sugar, so the sweetness from the milk and little bit of sugar is enough for me. In your case, adjust to your taste! Let’s get to it.
Classic Creamy Homemade Milk Tea

Yeah i know, its milk with tea, what is there to find out, but its a delicious drink and i would like to feature it here, why not! hehehe
Ingredients
- Water – 300ml
- Black Tea – 2 Tea Bags
- Milk – 100ml (Semi-Skimmed)
- Brown Sugar – 1 Teaspoon
Directions
- Heat the water and pour it into a large mug or jug with the tea. Leave it to infuse for longer than usual, at least 10 minutes. This will make the tea stronger and a little more harsh and bitter, which is what you want.
- Then add the brown sugar and milk, stir, remove the tea and taste, adjust the sugar if necessary, and if it’s not too hot, microwave it for another 1 or 2 minutes and that’s it, delicious! Bon appétit!

For an extra indulgent version, try using half-and-half or full fat milk, instead of regular milk.
If you want it frothy, use a milk frother or whisk vigorously after adding the milk.
The longer steeping time is crucial, don’t skip this step or your tea will be too weak against the milk. Also you can use chai tea or other teas with spices already in them to make extra especial versions ;D
Brown sugar adds a lovely caramel note, but regular sugar works just fine too Make a bigger batch and store it in the fridge for iced milk tea later!
