Well, this banana ice cream recipe isn’t really ice cream, but I don’t know what else to call it! Basically, it’s just frozen bananas blended with a drizzle of honey, this recipe literally has 3 ingredients! ;D This is “ice cream” in name only because there’s no cream here at all. It’s just bananas, but here’s the magical thing: unlike other fruits, when bananas freeze and you blend them up, they gain a consistency incredibly similar to real ice cream or if you add a bit of milk similar to soft serve. It’s pure banana magic!
If you try this exact same freezing process with mango, papaya, melon, etc., the result is something more like a sorbet, which is nice, that’s what it is blended fruit or flavoured frozen fruit juice than ice cream that is made with milk, cream, eggs, or a combination. But bananas are one of the few fruits that, after being frozen and blended, become super creamy and much more similar to actual ice cream.
It’s not just the ease factor, besides being simple to make, these are literally just frozen bananas, so it’s super nutritious and incredibly low in calories. Just roughly speaking, commercial banana ice cream has about 227 calories per 100g (3.5 oz), while bananas are only 89 calories per 100g (3.5 oz)! 🙂 This super simple recipe is something anyone can make, and it’s way healthier than store-bought ice cream. Let’s get to the recipe!
3-Ingredient Creamy Banana Ice Cream Soft Serve

Want ice cream but dont want the calories, this is the recipe for you, super simple and delicious, good for any ocasion!
Ingredients
- Banana – 4 small (from Madeira, hehehe, or 2 large)
- Milk – Optional/To Taste/As Needed (I used 2 tablespoons)
- Honey – Optional
Directions
- You need ripe bananas, otherwise the ice cream won’t have any flavor. When you have ripe bananas, peel them, cut them into slices, and put them in the freezer (Do it fast or you risk the bananas browning, still good but the color wont be nice).
- It’s best to leave them in the freezer overnight, but the minimum is about 4 hours. You need the bananas to be well frozen.
- Then, when you’re ready to make the ice cream, take the bananas out and blend them with a mixer, hand blender, or food processor until everything is creamy.
- Taste and adjust the texture. If you think it’s good, don’t add milk. I like it a little creamier, somewhere between soft ice cream and a sundae soft serve, so I added two tablespoons of milk, blended it a little more, and it turned out just the way I like it.
- Finally, serve with a drizzle of honey just to have variety of flavour, and you’re done! ;D Enjoy!

You can swap the honey for other sweeteners, spices like cinnamon, or any sweetener you prefer, or dont use any if the bananas are sweet enough for you, for me, I like to add some stuff just to give it another texture, like granola, raisins, honey…
Try adding other goodies like nuts or chocolate chipsm chocolate and banana is a classic combo!
When you have a banana that’s getting a bit too ripe, toss it right in the freezer for future ice cream adventures ;D The riper the banana, the sweeter your “ice cream” will be, those brown spots are your friend!
For the creamiest results, let your frozen bananas sit at room temperature for 2-3 minutes before blending, so they are not as hard and will cream much better when you bled them.
