Craving a warm, comforting treat straight from the oven? Enter the world of homemade scones! Scones might seem like an intimidating bakery endeavor, but they are as simple as it gets—mix, scoop, bake, and voilà, these beauties are ready to melt in your mouth.
Yes, scones have a British heritage, but they’re a worldwide comfort food. These delightful bites are perfect for a quick breakfast or a relaxing afternoon snack. I’ll show you the basic scone recipe, but don’t hesitate to level up the game by adding chocolate chunks, raisins, sliced almonds, walnuts, dates, and more.
The key to scones is in the light touch. Overmixing can alter the texture. Embrace the stickiness of the dough, and you’ll end up with wonderfully soft scones. Also, your scones can be versatile – experiment with flavors by adding various mix-ins for an exciting twist!
Homemade British Scones
Nothing quite compares to the smell of freshly baked british scones! So, prepare your favorite jam or a pot of tea!
Ingredients
- Self-Rising Flour – 200gr
- Baking Powder – 8gr
- Olive Oil – 30ml
- Milk – 125ml
- Sugar – 30gr
- Salt – A Pinch
- Butter – As Desired (For Serving)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180ºC and line a baking sheet with non-stick parchment.
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Stir until just mixed, and the dough is a bit sticky.
- Using a spoon, drop dollops of the dough onto the baking sheet, leaving some space between each. My batch made 9 scones. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Once golden and fully baked, remove from the oven. Serve these divine scones with jam or, my personal favorite, a dollop of whipped butter.
